GUR® PE-UHMW
Structure GUR PE-UHMW is a polyethylene with a very high polymerisation rate. The viscosimetrically established molecular weight (= molar mass) lies between 3.9 and 10.5 million g/mol. This extremely high molar mass confines the processing possibilities for this raw material to special extrusion and compression molding processes.
Properties GUR PE-UHMW is marked by a very specific combination of characteristics:
- extremely high notched impact strength
- high energy absorption capacity at high stress rates
- very good sliding quality
- excellent wear-resistance
- low friction loss values
- very good chemical resistance against acids, bases, and aggressive gases
- high resistance against stress cracking
- very good noise reduction
- wide variety of application possibilities due to dimensional stability at temperatures between -200 and + 90°C
Grades The GUR PE-UHMW product range encompasses basic grades, modified grades, and special designs for various applications. The processing material is supplied in powder form and ram extruded into semi-finished products and profiles by way of compression molding processes.
Applications Its high molecular weight allows GUR PE-UHMW to be applied where lower molecular PE types do not meet the given requirements. Additionally, the property profile of GUR PE-UHMW places this material among the engineering polymers and opens up to it the corresponding areas of application:
Machine Construction machine components that are subject to high abrasion, such as rollers, cogwheels, chain guides, bearing bushes, chain tighteners
Chemical Industries rotary pumps, taps, valves, silo coatings
Mining and Coal Processing linings of conveyor troughs, chutes, trolleys, hoppers
Galvanic Engineering galvanising drums, bearing shells, cogheels
Electrical Engineering isolation parts, connector plugs, mountings, cable tongs
Filter Technology, Acoustics porous molded parts for filtering liquids, for sound and vibration damping
Sports, Leisure running surfaces for down-hill and cross-country skis
Orthopedics Orthotic components and protheses
